Every 10 seconds a person dies of diabetes. In that same 10 seconds, 2 persons develop the disease. Although type 2 diabetes was once labeled adult onset diabetes, 1 in 4 El Paso children is at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a leading cause of death in El Paso. Over 50% of kidney-related complications are a result of uncontrolled diabetes. Most cases of adult onset blindness are due to uncontrolled diabetes. Amputations are largely a result of uncontrolled diabetes.
Think about it. It could be your child, parent, or neighbor. Let's not wait until we are affected personally. Do something about it today. Get involved. Support local diabetes initiatives.
